Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) 12 kms
Main Terminal:
The main terminal building handles all intra-Schengen flights, as well as several non-Schengen flights. All of the airport’s 144 check-in desks are located in the Main Terminal and it has three separate levels, one for arrivals, one for departures and a food court level complete with a view of the eastern runway. Finally, the terminal is equipped with fourteen jet bridges and eleven belt conveyors for luggage.
Hall A is used for flights to Non-schengen countries and Non-European countries.
Hall B handles flights to Intra-schengen countries as well as domestic services.
Satellite Terminal:
The satellite terminal has two levels, one for arrivals and the other for departures. It is easily accessible through an underground link complete with moving walkways. The terminal is equipped with ten jet bridges and is capable of handling annual traffic of six million passengers.On 24 May 2018, the Satellite Terminal officially restarted full operations. The airlines using it are Ryanair, Easyjet, Vueling, Eurowings, Norwegian, Transavia and Transavia France, TUIfly Belgium, Brussels Airlines, Aer Lingus, Air Transat and Scoot.
Through Aegean Airlines and Olympic airways many Greek Islands and parts of the mainland Greece are easily accesible.

Lysicrates monument: In the neighborhood of Plaka, a few steps from the Acropolis Museum, there is the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates.This monument was erected by the choregos Lysicrates to commemorate the award of the first prize in 335/334 BC to one of the performances that he had sponsored. The word choregos actually means sponsor in Greek.
Dionysus Theater: The Ancient Theatre of Dionysus is regarded as the first sample of Greek theatres and the birthplace of drama. It was built into a natural hollow at the southern slopes of the Acropolis and is the first theater in the whole world!The theatre was dedicated to Dionysus, the god of wine-making and ecstasy, whose festivals were the driving force behind the development of Greek theater. Established in the 6th century, the theater has been reconstructed many times since then.
Philopappo’s Hill: The Hill and Monument of Filopappou (or Philopappou) in Athens is a green area to the southwest of the Acropolis. It is a favorite place for a promenade among Athenians as it offers great views of the Acropolis, the whole city of Athens and the Aegean Sea that surrounds Attica.The hill owes its name to the grandson of the last king of Commagene, Gaius Julius Antiochus Epiphanes Philopappos.He was considered a great benefactor and was highly esteemed by the residents. He had also become friends with philosophers, including Plutarch.
Parthenon: The Parthenon is a resplendent marble temple built between 447 and 432 B.C. during the height of the ancient Greek Empire. Dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, the Parthenon sits high atop a compound of temples known as the Acropolis of Athens. It was the largest and most lavish temple the Greek mainland had ever seen. Throughout the centuries, the Parthenon withstood earthquakes, fire, wars, explosions and looting yet remains, although battered, a powerful symbol of ancient Greece and Athenian culture. Today, it is one of the most recognized buildings in the world and an enduring symbol of ancient Greece.
Areios Pagos: The rocky Hill of Areopagus (or Arios Pagos) is located on the northwestern side of the Acropolis. The top of a steep rock is one of the most popular places where the locals gather in groups to watch the sunset and the impressive views of the urban landscape of Athens.Areopagus Hill bears a great historical, cultural and religious significance, as it has been used as a multifunctional area ever since antiquity.The hill was probably named after the ancient god of war, Ares (Mars). Ancient Greeks used to believe that the place was connected to many major mythological events such as the first murder trial conducted by the gods.It is said that the place was the court in which the god Poseidon indicted Ares for killing his son Alyrrhotihios. Orestes’ trial also took place there, after he killed his mother, Clytemnestra. As a result, the oldest supreme court of Ancient Athens was established on the hill. To this day, the Greek Supreme Court for criminal and civil law is called Areopagus.

Archaeological site of Vravrona 4 kms
The famous Sanctuary of Artemis Vravronia is located 2,8 kms away from Markella’s House. Goddess Artemis’ cult dates back to 8th century BC and her sanctuary was built in 6th century BC. In Vravrona, Artemis was the protectress of pregnant women approaching childbirth, women who had recently given birth and also, children. For this reason, women dedicated their clothes after labour and if the children survived, they were brought to the sanctuary at an age between 5-10 and stayed there for some time to serve the goddess. At the archaeological site there is also a small but very interesting archaeological museum which houses the finds of the excavations.
Temple of Poseidon in Sounio 47 kms
Just a short drive from Vravrona is the 5th-century BC temple dedicated to the sea god himself, with an aura (and sunset) that continues to captivate visitorsThe temple of Poseidon (the ancient Greek god of the sea), dominates the southernmost tip of Attica, where the horizon meets the Aegean Sea. The famous Sanctuary of Artemis Vravronia / Archaeological Museum
The sanctuary of Brauronian Artemis was among the most important in ancient times. In the temple the goddess was worshiped as the protector of nature and women. She was mostly worshiped as the protector of childbirth. In fact, women who had a good pregnacy offered their clothes and personal items to the goddess, while the clothes of women who died during delivery were offered to the grave of Ifigeneia, who was considered as deity of the Underworld.In the ancient site of Vrauronian Artemis, visitors can see the remains of the temple and the Stoa,where children between 5-10 stayed for some months to serve the goddess. Also, the sanctuary of Ifigeneia and other buildings can be seen. Many finds have been transferred to the Arcaeological Museum of Vravrona , which is next to the ancient site and are trully amazing.
Hiking in Vravrona bay
As starting point from the museum of Vraurona you can start hiking either towards the coast and Erasinos estuary or to the archaeological site and the main part of the wetland. After the arcaeological site you continue in a road of 1.3 kms towards a new settlement called Chamolia. In Chamolia you walk for 1,5 kms on the main road and you find Chamolia’s beach. The peaceful and beautiful landscape will amaze you.

Marathon
The place of the famous battle against Persians. This place is famous due to the victory which the Athenians gained over the Persians in 490BC. The battle was the culmination of the first attempt by Persia, under King Darius I to subjugate Greece. According to historians this is the battle that saved the western civilization. According to ancient historian Thucydides the Athenians buried these 192 citizens in the place where they die because they consider their bravery unique.
Sounio
The sanctuary of Poseidon and Athena. On Cape Sounio, the Southernmost tip of Attica, on the summit of the rock which rises 60 meters above the sea, lies the sanctuary of Poseidon and Athena built in the middle 5th century BC. The view to the Aegean sea is breathtaking. This is the place where according to tradition king Aegeas commited suicide by falling into the sea and naming Aegean Sea after him.
Ancient Athens

We walk arount Lysicrates Monument and talk about the ancient theater, the sponsors of the plays and the magnificent monuments they built to present their prizes. Then we visit the prison of the famous philosopher Socrates and learn why he was killed by his co-citizens. Then we head for Philopappos’ hilland we talk about ancient city-state of Athens. After that, we walk towards Pnyka, the place where ancient Athenians used to gather and talk and make decisions for their city- state. We learn how the ancient democracy functioned. We finally climb up in Areios Pagos hill where according to legend, the first “murder case” , took place at the top of this hill at which the twelve Gods of Olympos tried Aris. Also, in the Christian years, at this rocky hill Apostole Paul reav=ched the teaching of Christ to the Athenians.
